All Citrix Service Provider monthly consumption offerings (referred to as MRR or CSP 1.0) went to EOL in December 2024. Partners were notified of this change and advised to transition to the new CSP 2.0 annual offerings. Since the old MRR licenses were EOL, the latest versions of the license server recognized them as an invalid license type and hence removed them from the license server. This causes the license server to stop issuing new licenses for requests coming from the Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
PVS Issue with the new CSP 2.0 licenses
PVS licenses did not contain the MSP2 attribute and would always be deleted, regardless of the license type. For partners with the new CSP 2.0 annual licenses, the PVS block in the license file was not updated to reflect the new license type.
What license types were impacted?
Steps to recover for partners with MSP licenses
After we identified the issue, CSP license files were updated on March 3, 2025 with appropriate detail for the license server to be able to distinguish between a legacy license and the new CSP 2.0 licenses. Partners impacted, should follow the following steps to restore service:
Visit Citrix MyAccount to return old license files and download a new license file.
Install the new license files on the license server installed.
The “MSP2” value should be displayed in Citrix Licensing Manager.
Verify the products are configured for the proper Product | Edition | License model.
Reboot servers to allow them to update cached license inventories.
Steps to recover for partners with legacy MRR or CSP 1.0 licenses
CSP MRR licenses are EOL and should no longer be used. Please work with your partner program representative to transition to the latest CSP 2.0 annual licenses. The following steps can help extend the current site till 01-Jun- 2025. This extension is being provided by Citrix in good faith for partners to work on a transition plan.
Place this file (with exact name) "extension.dat" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\Licensing\LS\resource\lasdata. The extension file must stay on the license server for the extension behavior to remain in effect.
Reboot Citrix Licensing Service.
After applying the extension partners can restore old CSP licenses and reboot products so they have updated license inventories.
Partners who do not have an offline copy of the license files will need to reach out to Citrix Support to get a temporary license file.
How to distinguish between legacy and new CSP 2.0 license files?
The license server uses different identifiers to distinguish between licensing programs. The legacy CSP MRR license files contained ‘UB=1’ identifier, while the new licenses contain the ‘MSP2’ attribute.
