Description
Citrix Provisioning Configuration wizard does not display dialogues to configure DHCP servers and PXE Services.
The configuration wizard begins by directly showing the Farm Configuration dialogue.
If DHCP servers and PXE Services are not configured, PVS target devices which rely on those services to boot will fail to boot.

Environment
Caution! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.
Resolution
Two options are available to workaround this behavior and ensure the dialogues for DHCP servers and PXE Services are displayed.
- Uninstall Windows Azure VM Agent before running PVS configuration wizard.
- Temporarily remove the Windows Azure VM Agent service registry when running PVS configuration Wizard
- Stop the Windows Azure VM Agent service.
- Open the registry and export the key and values in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WindowsAzureGuestAgent
- Run PVS configuration wizard and configure DHCP and PXE services
- Restore the registry backup and start the service again.
Problem Cause
The PVS servers installed software lists Windows Azure VM Agent.
- PVS software will conclude that if Windows Azure VM Agent is installed on the PVS server, that the PVS server is running in Azure.
- It is expected on PVS servers which run on Azure, to not display dialogues to configure DHCP and PXE services, as the only supported boot method in Azure is BDM disk, which does not use those services.
- However while Windows Azure VM Agent is installed in Azure based VMs by default, it can also be installed by customers using on premise hypervisors and physical servers to leverage Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Mobility Service.
- PVS servers using on premise hypervisors may rely on those services to provide boot straps to target devices, and the dialogues to configure DHCP or PXE services should be displayed.
Citrix engineering are working to improve detection that PVS services is running on an Azure VM, to prevent this behavior in a future product update.
Issue/Introduction
Citrix Provisioning Configuration wizard does not display dialogues to configure DHCP servers and PXE Services if Windows Azure VM Agent is installed.
