Description
When upgrading PVS 2203 servers to mitigate a Microsoft OLEDB driver vulnerability (CVE-2023-36728), a customer incorrectly removed Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18 and installed Microsoft OLE DB Driver 19. PVS Server 2203 cannot use Microsoft OLE DB Driver 19 to communicate with the SQL server.
Resolution
PVS 2203 is only compatible with Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18.
Updates to Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18 should be installed on PVS 2203 servers, to avail of latest security fixes from Microsoft.
Superseding cumulative updates for PVS 2203 include Microsoft updates to OLE DB Driver 18 as part of the PVS upgrade.
Problem Cause
All versions of PVS 2203, all cumulative update,s are designed to work with OLE DB Driver 18 only.
Removing OLE DB Driver 18 from PVS 2203 server will result in a loss of database connectivity.
