Description

After update Endpoint Management aka XenMobile no longer boots with error: (not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0))

Resolution

Power off the virtual machine, and update the hard drive properties.

Set the SCSI-Controller to VMWare Paravirtual from the drop-down list.

Problem Cause

During the first reboot while installing a XenMobile server upgrade (10.14 or 10.15) from 10.13 or earlier in a VMWare environment, the kernel panics as it is unable to load the virtual hard drive. The kernel panic error is "VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)"

This is caused by the virtual hard disk being in an older "mode" not supported by the linux kernel in the newer version of the virtual appliance.
