To upgrade the operating system of a standalone Citrix License Server

Note : While Microsoft may support an in-place OS upgrade, it's really not the best thing since there could be unknown impacts to the applications. Citrix does not test OS upgrade scenarios.


Here are some recommended updates:

Take a snapshot of the license server prior to carrying out the below actions:

1. Optional: Backup the license files
2. Uninstall the license server
3. Delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\Licensing directory, all contents and subdirectories.
4. Upgrade the OS
5. Here is where we recommend blocking all inbound traffic to 27000 and 7279 (licensing ports) prior to installing.  ** If this step is not followed, then any products will exit grace when they are able to reach the newly installed license server BEFORE licenses are re-installed **
6. Re-install the license server as per ​https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/licensing/current-release/license-server-getting-started.html
7. If you made a backup of the license files previously, you could add the license with the Use downloaded license file option.
8. Else, download the license file and install as described here: https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/licensing/current-release/citrix-licensing-manager/install#use-downloaded-license-file
9. Re-enable licensing ports.
