Description
When printing problems like missing pages, garbled characters, wrong font format, etc. happened with auto created printer in ICA session, the native print driver need to be confirmed whether it is related to the issue.
Instructions
The following example is used to illustrate how to check if the printing problems are related to Citrix Universal Print Driver.Client Printer Name: CutePDF WriterClient IP: 192.168.1.100Symptom: The CutePDF Writer can be redirected into ICA session, but document content cannot be printed correctly with it.Firstly, the printer with native print driver installed needs to be confirmed in RDP session.
■ Reproduce the issue in RDP session1. Share the printer CutePDF Writer on client side. (1) Right click printer and select Printer properties.
(2)
Switch to Sharing tab and check on [Share this printer], then click OK button.
2.
Add the shared client printer to VDA machine.
(1) On the VDA, click [Add a printer] in Devices and Printers control panel.
(2) Add the shared printer by name as below. Because the shared client printer needs to be added by client IP address or client FQDN, it is necessary to make sure the network is accessible from VDA to client. Here the client IP address is used.
(3)
The driver installation prompt maybe popped up if VDA side does not contain the client shared print driver. Click [Install driver].

3.
Use the added [CutePDF Writer on 192.168.1.100] printer to print document to check if the issue still happens.
If the issue could be reproduced in RDP session, Citrix UPD did not paticipate in the processing, so printing application developer and print driver vendor need to be involved for further investigation. If the issue cannot be reproduced in RDP session, the native print driver can be used in ICA session as a resolution to fix the issue.
■ Use native print driver in ICA session1. Make sure [Use universal printing only if requested driver is unavailable] is selected in [Universal print driver usage] policy.
2. Log into ICA session. The client printer is auto created by ICA session as Printer_Name (from Client_Name) format. The Model item displays the print driver currently in use. Make sure the native print driver name shows here. The screenshot as below shows the selected printer is using native print driver CutePDF Writer v4.0.
3. Check if the issue cannot be reproduced anymore with the ICA auto-created printer which is using native print driver.
