Description

When streaming a vDisk to a target device on a hypervisor leveraging HP servers and virtual connects, admins may see longer than usual boot time.

Resolution

To resolve this issue ensure that SR-IOV is disable in the BIOs and virtual connect server profiles.
•    Disable SR-IOV in BIOS
o    Enter System utilities from the HP boot screen
o    Select System Configuration-> Select BIOS/Platform Configuration->Virtualization options
o    Set SR-IOV to disabled under the drop down.

•    Configure SR-IOV to simplified on HP Virtual Connect server profile
o    Log into your HP virtual connect where server profiles are configured for your blades
o    Edit the server profile you want to disable SR-IOV
o    Select SR-IOV and set to simplified.

Problem Cause

The reason for disabling SR-IOV on Emulex NICs is the NIC firmware assumes that SR-IOV is enabled and sets up VEB (virtual ethernet bridging) which causes the packet to be looped back. The only way to prevent packet loopback it is to disable SR-IOV on a whole.
