Description
PVS VMs may show PowerState Unknown in Citrix Studio when the toolstack is restarted on the XenServer Hypervisor hosting the VMs.
Currently logged in sessions will be unaffected however any new user trying to log may encounter an error as the site is unable to determine if any VMs are powered on and available.
Resolution
Any of the following workarounds can restore the correct power state:
1. Run update-hyphypervisorconnection. The format is below:
Update-HypHypervisorConnection -LiteralPath xdhyp:\connections\Connection1
Reference Link: https://developer-docs.citrix.com/projects/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops-sdk/en/latest/HostService/Update-HypHypervisorConnection/
OR
2. Restart Citrix Host Service and then Citrix Broker Service on all controllers.
OR
3. Go to the impacted connection under the Hosting node. Click on Edit connection>Edit Settings. Put the password in again. Hit Apply and Ok.
Problem Cause
This is caused by a loss of the connection from XenDesktop to the Hypervisor when the toolstack is restarted, which causes XenDesktop to display a status of Power State Unknown for the VMs.
Session launches will be impacted until any of the actions above are performed to restore the Broker Service's ability to query Power State from the Hypervisor.
