Description

  • Users connecting to a Published Desktop on a Citrix Virtual Apps Server Can experience a Grey screen.
  • Only new connections are affected, already connected users are not affected.
  • An inspection of the processes running in any new session shows that the Citrix Graphics Engine (CtxGfx.exe) is not running.
  • Rebooting the VDA will allow users to connect.
  • An Inspection of the System event log shows the errors with ID 1003 and 1005 of source CtxUvi with the description: "The Citrix Universal DLL Injection Driver has detected an integrity error during initialization. The Citrix Universal DLL injection Driver has been disabled." and "The Citrix Universal DLL Injection Driver has encountered an unexpected error." respectively.
  • On rare occasions, the CTXUVI system events do not appear.
  • There is no GPO or similar making changes to the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\CtxHook or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Citrix\CtxHook

Environment

Caution! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.

Resolution

  • Apex One also was found to cause the same problem.  Apex One is working on Hot Fix for this issue.  You must contact Trend Micro Tech support to request the hot fix or to check the status.

Problem Cause

The Citrix Universal Injection Kernel Driver (CTXUVI) receives an Access Denied error from the OS when it attempts to load a hook into a new process. As a precaution, it is designed to shutdown gracefully when this occurs.

This issue was jointly resolved by Citrix engineering and Trend Micro engineering.
