Description

Sequence to follow for OS upgrade on a PVS server

Instructions

Citrix recommends that all Provisioning Servers in a Site have the same OS along with the build of the OS.

An in-place OS upgrade on a Server running Citrix Provisioning Services may break the functionality and is not recommended. The following upgrade sequence is recommended if you are planning to have the PVS servers OS to be upgraded

  1. Take a snapshot of all the PVS servers in the Site and then back up the PVS database
  2. Deploy a new Server with the required OS
  3. Install new provisioning services on the newly deployed server
  4. Join this PVS Server to the existing PVS Farm
  5. Configure the bootstrap to have the entry for newly deployed server
  6. Shutdown the PVS servers with older version of OS and validate if the target devices are booting up and functioning as expected
  7. Once the validation is successful, the older PVS servers can be removed from the farm
