Description

After upgrading from 7.15 LTSR CU5 to 1912 LTSR CU1 on Windows Server 2012 R2, opening Adobe Reader DC produces a pop-up error "Werfault.exe" (0x0000142)

Environment

Caution! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.

Resolution

Excluding the Citrix API hooking for Acrobat by adding Acrobat's exe to the registry HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CtxUvi

Configuring a hook exclusion is also outlined in https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX107825.
Disabling Application specific hooks by configuring Adobe in UviProcessExcludes has an impact only on that application and allows it to work normally where there were any issues. Per-application hooks have no impact on other applications on the VDA. There would only be impact if a given Per-API Hook itself was disabled which would reduce functionality across all applications using that Hook on the VDA, but this is not what you have configured, so there is no cause for concern. As long as the full functionality of Acrobat is confirmed following the exclusion of hooks from the process, you may continue to use it normally.
