Description

After Secure Hub 20.11 release, Device Administrator enrollments for Android 10 devices will not be able to use the following policies:

  • DISABLE_CAMERA
  • DISABLE_KEYGUARD_FEATURES
  • EXPIRE_PASSWORD
  • LIMIT_PASSWORD
This will affect all MDM vendors, as Google will be deprecating these APIs.

Please note: this will affect both Cloud Endpoint Management, and Endpoint Management Server (previously known as XenMobile) devices.

Enrolling via Legacy Device Administrator Mode after deprecation

New enrollments and re-enrollments of an Android 10 device using legacy Device Administrator mode after May 31 will no longer be supported. Devices using Android 10 must enroll or re-enroll using Android Enterprise.

Please follow this link on how to create enrollment profiles in Android Enterprise.

Cannot migrate all devices to Android Enterprise

To be clear, only devices that are on Android 10 will be affected when you enroll using Device Administrator APIs. It is important to note that support for Android Enterprise is available for devices with Android 6 and above.

Please follow this link on how to migrate to Android Enterprise  from Legacy Device Administration.

Existing devices running Android 10 with Device Administration APIs

You’ll need to migrate devices currently running Android 10 to Android Enterprise to ensure support for this device. The device will not stop working until a re-enroll is needed.

If you haven’t started the move to Android Enterprise, there’s no better time then now. Our recommendation is to start moving all Android devices to Android Enterprise, starting with Android 10. Android Enterprise is the modern management platform that provides the rich features you need to continue to manage and secure your Android devices.

Please follow this link on how to migrate to Android Enterprise  from Legacy Device Administration.

Existing devices not running Android 10 with Device Administration APIs

Devices running Android 6 and above, excluding Android 10, will not be affected by this change. It is still recommended to migrate to Android Enterprise to ensure support for these devices. It is important to note that support for Android Enterprise is available for devices with Android 6 and above.
The devices will not stop working, and policies will still apply accordingly.
