VDA version 2006 and later
Description:
Upgrade of the VDA to version 2006 or later stops with a dialog prompt: “VDA Component AppDisks VDA Plug-in installed. Click OK to allow the removal of Component AppDisks VDA Plug-in so the upgrade can continue. For more information, see CTX270651”
Root cause:
If the AppDisk component was ever installed on a VDA, that VDA cannot be upgraded to version 2006 or later. (This applies even if you installed AppDisk and never used it.) To upgrade to the new VDA version, you must click OK when you receive the dialog prompt during the upgrade process.
Learn if you’re affected:
How AppDisk might have been installed in earlier versions:
- In the VDA installer’s graphical interface, AppDisk was an option on the Additional Components page. Earlier releases enabled this option by default. So, if you accepted the defaults (or explicitly enabled the option in any release), AppDisk was installed.
If you don’t know whether your VDA has AppDisk installed, run the installer for the new VDA (2006 or later) on the machine or image.
- If AppDisk is installed, a message appears, indicating there is an incompatible component.
- For the graphical interface, click OK to remove on the page containing the message, or Cancel to not remove the component and cancel the upgrade.
- From the CLI, the command simply fails with the displayed message.
- If AppDisk is not installed, the upgrade proceeds.
Resolution
- Run the VDA installer
- Prompt indicates whether to hit:
- OK to remove AppDisk component or
- Cancel to not remove and cancel the upgrade
- If decision was made to remove, proceed to hit OK to complete the upgrade
- AppDisk will be removed during the upgrade process
- Upgrade complete
For Command Line Installation:
When using Command line to upgrade the VDA agent use the switch "/remove_appdisk_ack" to remove AppDisk component.
