Description

Issue

The objective is to upgrade VMware Tools after an ESX host upgrade, make the change in the OS Layer and create a new View Agent app layer

Instructions

Procedure

After the ESXi host has been upgraded, follow the below steps. Add Version to the OS layer and install VMware Tools in the Install Machine as an upgrade.

If available, make sure you disable Persona Management.

To avoid a potential BSOD (0x0000007B) which is benign, when View prompts you to reboot, shut down instead.

When the machine shuts down, the Unidesk task will immediately kick in. When it finishes, you can manually power the IM back on, and it will come up OK.

You can then click 'Finalize'.

If you have VMware View Agent installed as an Application Layer, you must also upgrade the VMware Tools separately in that Layer.

Create a new View Agent layer, using the latest, updated OS layer version.

You need to do this twice (once in the OS layer, once in the View Agent layer, if it exists) because VMware View Agent modifies elements of VMware Tools, and pulls the current version into the layer. If you do not upgrade VMware Tools in the View Agent layer, your desktops will still see the old VMware Tools version as provided by the Agent layer, even though the OS has a newer version.
