When trying to edit a layer or publish an image with any Elastic Layering option turned on (basically, any operation where our filter drivers are involved), the machine will have a boot failure, referencing File: \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\unirsd.sys, Status: 0xc0000428, Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.



This may also be related to a warning attempting to run setup_x64.exe to initially install the drivers on a new Gold Image, stating also about unirsd.sys, saying "Windows requires a digitally signed driver."  You can ignore this warning and continue with the installation, but when you go to create layers, you will see the boot failure above.

Make sure your Windows 7 image is fully updated with Windows patches. These errors, both the boot failure and the installer failure, disappear once Windows is fully patched with windows updates.  Since editing an OS layer does not involve our filter driver, you can version your existing OS layer to fix it.  You do not need to go back to your original Gold VM if you don't want to.
