How to disable Interrupt Safe Mode in Provisioning Services
The "Interrupt Safe Mode" configuration is a special setting designed to handle bad PXE implementations that do not comply with PXE standards or have bugs.
The setting forces a reset on the UNDI Interface after sending every packet into the Network. This causes a considerable delay in communications and it's only meant to cope with buggy PXE implementations.
Note: The PXE implementation itself is not a PVS component. The PXE code resides in the Hypervisor or Physical NIC Firmware.
To disable "Interrupt Safe Mode" in the bootstrap for Targets using PXE or BDM Partition:
- Open the PVS Console and navigate to the Servers node
- Right click on each PVS Server and select "Configure Bootstrap"
- Remove the check from the "Interrupt Safe Mode" setting (see image below)
To disable "Interrupt Safe Mode" in the bootstrap for Targets using BOOT.ISO:
- On the second step of the BDM Tool Wizard, remove the check from the "Interrupt Safe Mode" setting (see image below)
The following actions are required for the new configuration to take effect:
- For Target Devices using BOOT.ISO
- Recreate the BOOT.ISO using the BDM Tool and making sure the above configuration is used to disable "Interrupt Safe Mode"
- Deploy the new BOOT.ISO file to the Hypervisor
- Either overwrite the existing BOOT.ISO on the Hypervisor or assign the new BOOT.ISO to all the Target Devices
- Restart all the Target Devices
- For Target Devices using BDM Partition
- If the PVS server version is prior to PVS 7.9, all the Target Devices must be recreated using the XenDesktop Setup Wizard
- On PVS version 7.9 and later the BDM Partition can be updated from within the PVS Console. Refer to the "Updating a BDM partition" instructions on the Documentation
- Restart all the Target Devices
