Description

  • When trying to PXE boot provisioning service target Virtual machines, it was failing with the following error

Could not start download: operation not supported'
  • Target Virtual Machine able to receive the DHCP IP from Infoblox Appliance but not able to download ARDBP32.bin from the TFTP server

Resolution

Configure option 67 and "Next Server" within the scope defined for your Target Devices

The Next Server option allows for 1 entry.  If using TFTP HA with an F5 or Netscaler load balancer then the VIP IP or FQDN are placed in the Next Server option.

Follow  steps mentioned in below article to configure the infoblox DHCP appliance
https://docs.infoblox.com/display/NAG8/Configuring+IPv4+BOOTP+and+PXE+Properties

Next Server: Enter the IP address or hostname of the boot file server where the boot file is stored. Complete this field if the hosts in your network send requests for the IP address of the boot server. If the TFTP server is the NIOS appliance that is also serving DHCP, enter the IP address of the appliance.

Problem Cause

Option 66 and 67 appear to be a Microsoft based construct.  When running Infoblox DHCP services, options 66 and "Next Server" are required for the booting PXEROM to digest and execute these options.

*Option 66 is not supported and "next server" option should be used instead when running Infoblox DHCP.
