Description

How to change the VDA hostname

Instructions

Machine deployed via MCS
It is not possible to change the machine hostname.

MCS will always apply the computer name that the machine was created with as the machine boots, this will overwrite any change you have made to the computer name. This is required as all MCS machine whether pooled or persistent work off a thin clone of the master VM and so as the machine initially boots the disk image still has the original master machine name in it.

The new hostname will not be copied into the identity data that is used by the Machine Identity Service agent at boot. This is executed at every boot for every machine created by MCS whether they be pooled or dedicated and the agent will overwrite the machine name that you set.
  • delete VDA from Catalog and Delivery Group
  • uninstall VDA
  • change hostname
  • install VDA
  • create new catalog choose with “other technology” to add this VDA create new delivery group and add this VDA
