Can't play media files such as mp3, mp4, wav, wmv, mpg  etc. with an error pops "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." in XA/XD sessions

Resolution

1.Enable RAVE mode
2.If 1 does not work, enable Legacy mode
3.Reinstall codes that are missed in customer's both VDA and Receiver side PC environment.
4.Tried this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2483177 --- "You cannot play back an H.264 video file or an AAC audio file on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 with the Desktop Experience feature enabled"
5.Upgrade VDA to 7.11, 7.12 or 7.6.3000 to resolve it

Please try one if above methods.

Codec missing or some configuration is corrupted.
