This article describes how to change the default browser in ICA session.

Background

Users want the URLs in published applications to open in Firefox, Chrome or any other browser, but not Internet Explorer, the default browser.

Instructions

Do the following on the application server/VDA:

  1. Set Firefox/Chrome as the default program in control panel default programs:
    1. ​Go to Control Panel > Default Programs > Set your default program.
    2. Select the browser you want to make as the default browser under  Programs tab on the left.
    3. Select Set this program as default or Choose defaults for this program as per requirement.
  2. ​Set the below keys:
    Caution! Refer to the Disclaimer at the end of this article before using Registry Editor.

    1. HKCR\http\shell\open\command
      Change the path in the default key to 'Browser's .exe location'. 

    2. HKCR\http\shell\open\command_backup
      Change the path in the default key to 'Browser's .exe location'

    3. HKCR\https\shell\open\command
      Change the value in the default key to 'Browser's .exe location'

    4. HKCR\https\shell\open\command_backup
      Change the value in the default key to 'Browser's .exe location'

Close and relaunch the ICA session.

Environment

Caution! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.
