Description

This tool verifies your USB device redirection without the need to install Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp.

Prerequisites

  • Peripherals Easy Test can be run on a physical machine with Windows 7 / Windows 8/ Windows 8.1/Windows 10/ Windows Server 2012/ Windows Server 2012 R2.
  • The machine that Peripherals Easy Test will be installed on must be a machine without any Citrix products (such as Citrix Receiver) already installed. If any Citrix products are already installed, the tool will fail to install.
  • You must install .Net Framework 4.5 or higher before installing Peripherals Easy Test.
  • Peripherals Easy Test must be run as a user with Administrative privileges for all features to be functional.

Note:  Microsoft Windows might automatically search for drivers online using the Windows Update service when installing Peripherals Easy Test. Wait until the driver software installation of Citrix Remote USB Bus is complete before you restart the system.

How to use Peripherals Easy Test

Double click the “Peripherals Easy Test" shortcut on the desktop to open the program. All USB devices connected to the computer will be listed.

file

Click the checkbox next to the device you want to redirect. The checkbox will change to show “Redirecting”.

file

After the device has completed redirecting, the status will change from “Windows Local Device” to “Citrix Redirected Device”.

file

Check the Device Manager on the local computer to ensure if the device is connected to the Citrix remote USB bus.

file

After device redirection, the device will be managed by “Citrix remote USB bus.” You can test the redirected device from its application to verify that the device redirection is working.

Note:  This tool is designed only to verify the USB redirection functionality, not for stress test purposes. If you are testing a USB storage device, use a file smaller than 30KB to test the function.

How to Test a Device Whose Checkbox Is Disabled

You may find some devices to have grey checkboxes; this is because the Citrix redirection rule, by default, prohibits those devices from being redirected. You can test those devices after editing the registry manually as follows.

Caution!  Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

1.  Get the VID of the device by hovering your cursor on top of an item in the device list. For example, the VID in the image above is 079B.

2.  On a 64-bit machine, edit the registry as follows:

  • Add ALLOW: vid=079B to the top of the list in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\ICA Client\GenericUSB\DeviceRules
  • Add ALLOW: vid=079B to the top of the list in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Citrix\0\User\VCPolicies\USBDeviceRules

On a 32-bit machine, edit the registry as follows:

  • Add ALLOW: vid=079B to the top of the list in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\GenericUSB\DeviceRules
  • Add ALLOW: vid=079B to the top of the list in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Citrix\0\User\VCPolicies\USBDeviceRules

3.  Restart the Citrix Device Redirector Service, and restart Peripherals Easy Test. You’ll find the device with the checkbox enabled.
