NetScaler : How to create a custom SSH banner
Instructions
The default banner is a warning that is enclosed in "#########" that states only authorized users must access the system.
You can customize this message for CLI only by performing the following:
- Login to CLI.
- Go to shell,
- Add your customized message in the "/nsconfig/issue" (for console) and/or "/nsconfig/issue.net" (for SSH) files.
- Reboot the appliance, as this will load it to the 'running config' or copy the modified files to the "/etc/" directory
To perform this customization for GUI:
- Login to the ADC via CLI
- Go to Shell
- Run the below command to got to nsconfig directory.
- Run the below command to create a file under nsconfig directory.
- After this you can login ADC using winscp
- Go to /nsconfig/ directory.
- Edit the 'motd' file.
- Add required banner in motd file.
- Save the file
- Return to ADC CLI and run the below command one by one under shell
- ln -s /nsconfig/motd /etc/motd
- echo "ln -s /nsconfig/motd /etc/motd" >> /nsconfig/rc.netscaler
After that, the GUI will also display the performed changesThese commands have to executed on both the ADCs separately if ADC's are in HA.
Note: If you want to simply modify the existing message, you can copy the relevant file from the "/etc/" directory to the "/nsconfig/" directory, modify it, and then upload it to the "/etc/" directory.
Important: If you do not want any banner, make sure the files exist but have no content.
