Printers are randomly removing out of users sessions and some users are not getting Citrix auto create printers at all.
The issue could be related to the Print Spooler running into issues with drivers which in turn will cause issues with Citrix Printing. The symptom of the Citrix Print Management Service being stopped will make it look like it is a Citrix issue when it could very well be an issue with the Print Spooler. If you look at the properties of the Citrix Print Management Service you will see that it is dependent on the Print Spooler. You can also note that if you look at the recovery options of the Citrix Print Management it is not set to recover if it experiences an issue. Where as if the Print Spooler fails it is set to recover. So in a scenario where the Print Spooler fails, it will restart as long as it is able to where as the Citrix Print Management service being depended upon it will just stop and not restart. Following are some tests in order to get to the bottom of where the problem is coming from.
Steps for testing:
- Go to the properties of both the Citrix Print Management Service and Print Spooler
- Go to the recover tab on both and make note of the Print Spooler settings
- Change the Citrix Print Management Service to the same recovery settings as the Print Spooler
- Save changes
***Note: The reason this is done is so that your end users will still be able to get their printers while you diagnose where the issue is occurring.
If the Citrix Print Management Service doesn't stop at this point, then you know that the Print Spooler was stopping which would then stop the Citrix Print Management Service. At this point you will need to find out what is causing the Print Spooler to stop. This is usually due to a corrupted printer driver. Verify the stability of the drivers on your Citrix Server by using the articles listed in the Additional Resources section.
Issue seems to be related to issues with drivers.
