Description

Complete the following steps to troubleshoot power supply issues on NetScaler:

  1. Physically reseat the removable NetScaler power supply.

  2. Ensure that you are using LOM version 3.x. With LOM 2.x, false positives of power supply failures are common because the scaling factors for power supply voltages was changed.  Because of this, some NetScaler firmware versions will report false power supply failures unless LOM version 3.x is being used.
For more information refer to CTX215590 - Error: "Power Supply Failure detected" erroneously reported by LOM.

  3.  Login to the ADC SDX appliance XenServer IP address and use the following command to verify the sensor lists:
    ipmitool sensor list

This example output is for a functional power supply, where the status of 0x1 denotes the power supply health is good:
    PS Status        | 0x1        | discrete   | 0x0100| na        | na        | na        | na        | na        | na

This example output is for a failing power supply, where the status of 0x2 denotes the power supply health is failing. If the PS_* status is 0x2 then contact technical support.
    PS_1 Status      | 0x2        | discrete   | 0x0200| na        | na        | na        | na        | na        | na
    PS_1 Fan Status  | 0x2        | discrete   | 0x0200| na        | na        | na        | na        | na        | na

  4. On ADC MPX use the following command to verify the status of the power supply:
stat system -detail | grep -i power

    User-added image
  5. In some instances, older versions of the software can report a power supply failure erroneously. Check the ADC SDX Service VM firmware version by opening the management service IP address, selecting the Configuration tab, and look under System Information > Build.
Alternately from the command line, login to the ADC SDX appliance Xenserver IP address and check the bundle version with this syntax:
rpm -qa | grep -i netscaler

    User-added image

Compare this value to the most recent ADC SDX Bundle available from Citrix at https://www.citrix.com/downloads/netscaler-adc/service-delivery-appliances/

  6.  Run the following command at the XenServer shell prompt at root:
    ipmitool mc info

    User-added image

Determine if the firmware version reported matches the recommended version published at the NetScaler LOM Version and Support Matrix.
If the LOM firmware version can be upgraded, verify if the option of an automated LOM firmware upgrade is available here: https://www.citrix.com/downloads/netscaler-adc/components/lom-firmware-upgrade.html

  7. Use the following table to troubleshoot the PSU based on the status of the LED:

    LED Power Supply Indicators
    Power Supply TypeLED ColorLED Indicates
ACOFFNo power to any power supply.
Flashing REDNo power to this power supply.
Flashing GREENPower supply is in standby mode.
    GREENPower supply is functional.
    REDPower supply failure.
DCOFFNo power to any power supply.
Flashing REDNo power to this power supply.
Flashing BLUEPower supply is in standby mode.
    BLUEPower supply is functional.
    REDPower supply failure.
