Description

XenApp/XenDesktop 7.x is not able to either install or uninstall on a Windows 2008 R2 Server. The installer fails during the process.

The following error appears in the msi log : 

(UNKNOWN) Error 1911. Could not register type library for file C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\System32\Euem\Service\SemsComLibrary.tlb. Contact your support personnel. 
(SERVER) MSI (s) (C4:58) [12:43:03:266]: Product: Citrix HDX TS (retail) -- Error 1911. Could not register type library for file C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\System32\Euem\Service\SemsComLibrary.tlb. Contact your support personnel.

Resolution

Solution 1

Allow the XenApp/XenDesktop installation or upgrade to continue without errors by temporarily disabling the Microsoft Update for Windows Installer Service fix.

The instruction steps below are from the Microsoft MS15-074 \ KB 3072630 page.
To temporarily undo the security fix in KB 3072630, follow these steps: 

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry: 
     
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

    Note: If this subkey does not exist, create it.
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. For the DWORD name, type RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy, and then press Enter.
  5. Right-click RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Install the required application.
  8. After the application installs successfully, reset the RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy DWORD value to 0 to re-enable the security fix for KB 3072630.

Solution 2

Disable "Turn off Windows Installer RDS Compatibility" GPO will allow the installation of HRP06 to complete successfully. Computer Configuration/AdminTemp/Windows Components/Remote Desktop Services/Application Compatibility.

Problem Cause

An update to the Windows Installer Service  MS15-074 \ KB 3072630 released on July 14, 2015 is preventing the installation or upgrade to complete.
or
GPO from AD "Turn off Windows Installer RDS Compatibility" is set to Enabled on XenApp servers.

Issue/Introduction

Error 1911. Could not register type library for file C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\System32\Euem\Service\SemsComLibrary.tlb. Contact your support personnel.
