This document describes creating a Microsoft Azure Classic host connection in Citrix XenDesktop and Workspace Cloud Apps and Desktops. This host connection type enables you to use Microsoft Azure resources created using the classic, or Service Management, deployment model.
To successfully create a Microsoft Azure Classic host connection, you need the following items:
A working XenDesktop deployment or Citrix Workspace Cloud customer account with access to the Apps and Desktops service
A Microsoft Azure subscription
A Microsoft Azure publish settings file
To create a Microsoft Azure Classic host connection, you will need to supply the Microsoft Azure publish settings file for your Microsoft Azure account. This file is an XML document containing all the Microsoft Azure subscription IDs and certificates associated with your account. When creating the connection, you will need to import the contents of the publish settings file into Studio.
Before you create a host connection, perform the following actions:
Identify the Microsoft Azure region you want to use with the host connection. The storage account, virtual network, and other resources you will use to provision machines are contained in this region. You will need to select this region when you create the host connection.
Identify the Microsoft Azure virtual network you will use with the host connection. If no virtual network exists for your chosen region, create one. You will need to specify this virtual network when you create the host connection.
Creating the host connection involves the following actions:
Complete the Add Connection wizard.
You can obtain the publish settings file for your Microsoft Azure subscription using one of the following methods:
Visit https://manage.windowsazure.com/publishsettings/index and log on with your Microsoft credentials. When prompted, download the publish settings file.
Using Azure PowerShell, type Get-AzurePublishSettingsFile at the command line. When prompted, supply your Microsoft credentials and download the publish settings file.
The process for importing the publish settings file into Studio differs depending on whether you are using XenDesktop or Workspace Cloud:
In XenDesktop, you select the publish settings file in Studio and import the entire contents.
In Workspace Cloud, you copy and paste the contents of the entire publish settings file using the Studio clipboard.
If you have multiple subscriptions, Studio prompts you to select the subscription you want to use. The subscription information in your publish settings file looks similar to the following sample. However, the certificate information is much longer.
<Subscription ServiceManagementUrl="https://management.core.windows.net" Id="o1455234-0r10-nb93-at53-21zx6b87aabb7p" Name="Test1" ManagementCertificate=";alkjdflaksdjfl;akjsdfl;akjsdfl;ajsdfkl;ajsdlfk;jasdkl;faskldfjalsk;dfjaklsdjfakl;sjdflkajsdfl;kjasdlfkjasl;dkjfalksdflaksdfklajsdfkljalskdfjakl;sdflaksdjflkasjdfkl;ajskl;dfqwioperuqopiweuroqipwuerioquwerioaskl;dfalk;sjdfz,.cvz,.mxcnvlaksjdfl;aksdfioquwerl;kanxcv,zxncvlkaweio;rual;kjsdflkavzcvm,znxcm,vaskl;dfailserioasdflk;ajsdfklz,xcnv,zm.xcnvm,nakl;sdfakl;sdfil;asdjfakl;sdfaweiopruaiowpeufasdvm,zxcnvm,zxcvm,asldkfjal;skdfjal;skdfawioeurqiopweruiopasdfakl;sdjfklczx,./vzx,.cv,.zxc,.vm<>?Xcklasdjklasdfioqaweuropweufiopasdkl;faklsdvz,.xcvklajsdkfjaseiorulzkcvjakl;sdjfklasdfilaskjdfkluqweiopruaiopdfaklsdjfjsdilfasdkl;fjerioup" />
To import the publish settings file:
From Studio, expand Configuration and select Hosting.
In the Actions pane, click Add Connections and Resources.
In Connection Type, select Microsoft Azure Classic.
Click Import.
For XenDesktop, select the publish settings file when prompted and then click Open. If you have multiple subscriptions, select the subscription you want to use and click OK.
For Workspace Cloud Apps and Desktops, perform the following actions:
Using a text editor, open the publish settings file, select the contents of the entire file, and press CTRL+C to copy it.
In Studio, click the Open clipboard button in the floating toolbar and press CTRL+V. The publish settings contents appears in the Studio clipboard.
In the Azure Publish Settings Content box, press CTRL+V. The publish settings contents appears in the content box. Click OK. If you have multiple subscriptions, select the subscription you want to use and click OK.
Enter a connection name. Citrix recommends using the same name as the Microsoft Azure subscription.
Complete the wizard by selecting the region and virtual network you want to use.
