Product: VDA for Windows Desktop OS
Current Product Version: 7.6
Previous Product Version: 7
The following issues were fixed in XenDesktop 7.x:
XenDesktop 7.6 for Windows Desktop OS
XenDesktop 7.5 for Windows Desktop OS
XenDesktop 7.1 for Windows Desktop OS
XenDesktop 7 for Windows Desktop OS
VDA registration might fail intermittently as a result of not getting the Session ID of Active Directory.
[#LA3504]
Version 7.x of the VDA 7.0 fails to register to the Controller in disjoint namespace environments. For more information about disjoint namespace, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731125(v=ws.10).aspx.
[#LA4443]
When reconnecting over a LAN to a session that was initiated over a WAN, the HDX WAN policy is applied in the reconnected session.
[#LA4728]
In mixed environments where XenDesktop 7 VDAs are registered to XenDesktop 5.6 Controllers, Desktop Studio, under Session information, displays incorrect logon times.
[#LA4966]
Running the XenDesktopVdaSetup.exe /? command to display all available switches for the installer displays enable_remote_management as an available switch even though support for that switch has been removed. This fix removes the switch from the list of switches displayed.
[#LA5132]
In mixed environments where XenDesktop 7.1 VDAs are registered to XenDesktop 5.6 Controllers, Desktop Studio, under Session information, displays VDAs that have disconnected sessions as Ready.
[#LA5352]
Attempts to launch a VDA from StoreFront can fail with the following error message even when a redundant controller is available:
"You cannot access this session because no licenses are available."
[#LC0255]
This enhancement provides additional compatibility with Nvidiaâ??s GRID API related to GPU pass-through and vGPU use cases.
[#LA5251]
In HDX 3D Pro sessions, the screen can fail to be fully drawn; instead, parts of the session screen appear in black.
[#LA5338]
This enhancement provides additional compatibility with Nvidia's GRID API related to GPU pass-through and vGPU use cases. Specifically, it addresses the following issues: â?¢With GPU pass-through enabled, sessions with certain custom resolutions fail to launch. â?¢In full-screen VDA sessions with a 2560x1600 custom resolution, switching among open applications and/or closing applications fails to refresh the session window. As a result, a ghost window remains on the screen.
[#LA5769]
HDX MediaStream Flash Redirection
Browsing certain Web sites with HDX MediaStream Flash Redirection enabled can cause the PseudoContainer2.exe process to exit unexpectedly.
To enable this fix, you must set the following registry key on the VDA:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\HdxMediaStreamForFlash\Server\PseudoServer
Name: SupportedUrlHeads
Type: REG_MULTI_SZ
Data: <each value on a separate line, null separated:>
http://
https://
file://
Note: To provide a better browsing experience with HDX Flash, Citrix recommends that you also install Receiver Fix #LA5255 (Citrix Receiver for Windows 3.4 Cumulative Update 3 or its replacement) on the endpoint.
[#LA4151]
When using Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and later versions of the browser, if you click a link to a Flash redirected video while another Flash redirected video is already playing, the audio streams of the two videos overlap.
This fix does not eliminate the issue, but setting the following registry key on the server allows you to shorten the amount of time during which it occurs:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\HdxMediaStreamForFlash\Server\PseudoServer
Name: UrlListForTerminationFlashInst
Type: REG_MULTI_SZ
Data: <URLs of affected websites; include both http:// and https://, each on a separate line; for example: http://www.youtube.com/; https://www.youtube.com/>
[#LC0453]
When using Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 or later, Flash redirection can fail for videos embedded in websites. A black rectangle appears in place of the video.
To enable this fix, you must set the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\HdxMediaStreamForFlash\Server\PseudoServer
Name: WorkWithAeroEnabled
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0
[#LC0477]
After using YouTube's built-in Search field In Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and later versions of the browser, HDX Flash Redirection reverts to server-side rendering.
To enable this fix, you must set the following registry key on the server:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\HdxMediaStreamForFlash\Server\PseudoServer
Name: SupportedUrlHeads
Type: REG_MULTI_SZ
Data: <each value on a separate line, null separated>
http://
https://
file://
Note: SupportedUrlHeads was first introduced in Fix #LA4151. It is also used by this fix. If you add SupportedUrlHeads to the Registry, Flash Redirection ignores a Flash instantiation request unless the targeted URL starts with one of the headers specified in SupportedUrlHeads.
[#LC0505]
Flash redirection fails for videos embedded on cnn.com and msn.com. A black rectangle appears in place of the video.
In order to enable this fix, you must set the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Citrix\HdxMediaStreamForFlash\Server\PseudoServer\ASJSCallbacks
For cnn.com:
Name: cnn.com
Type: REG_MULTI_SZ
Data: | javaScriptLoaded |
setQueueAutoplay | |
setAdVisibility | |
setPlayerMode | |
setAdSection | |
setAdKeyValue | |
playContent | |
getContentEntry | |
switchTrackingContext |
For msn.com:
Name: msn.com
Type: REG_MULTI_SZ
Data: | MsnVideoCallback |
MsnVideoPropertyCallback | |
GetWidgetID |
Note: This fix works only for Internet Explorer 9 and later.
[#LC0665]
Microsoft Internet Explorer might exit unexpectedly, referencing pseudoserverinproc2.dll, if Adobe Flash Player 11.8.800.168 or later is installed.
[#LA4996]

[#LA5388]
Installing, Uninstalling, Upgrading
Attempts to install the VDA on Windows 7 64-bit using the XenDesktopVdaSetup.exe /NOCITRIXWDDM command (to prevent Citrix WDDM drivers from installing) fail.
[#LC0235]
When reconnecting to a session from a different user device that has a different keyboard layout, the new keyboard layout is not applied automatically to the existing session.
[#LA5004]
Attempts to map the Universal Printer Driver from a client device can cause the Spooler process (spoolsv.exe) to exit unexpectedly.
[#LA3976]
Attempts to print using the XPS Universal Printer driver can cause third party applications to become unresponsive while printing on autocreated client printers. As a result, the print spooler service might exit unexpectedly.
[#LA4148]
This fix ensures that client-side LPT ports are not displayed in the session with the following policies configured as follows:
Note: For 64-bit VDAs, this fix requires that you also install Fix #LA2941.
[#LA4280]
Session printers are not deleted when connecting from different end points that are subject to different printing policies. The issue occurs because the Citrix Print Manager Service, CpSVc.exe, does not honor policy changes during session reconnection, including the deletion of printers that are no longer required under any newly applicable policies upon reconnection. This enhancement introduces support for the following registry key that, if set, enables the deletion of session printers upon reconnect if policies dictate that they are no longer required:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA\PrintingSettings
Name: DeleteNetworkPrinters
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 1 (to enable deletion of unnecessary session printers)
[#LA4360]
When using the Citrix Universal Printer Driver (UPD) and selecting Printer Properties from within the Print menu of Microsoft Office 2003 and 2010 applications, the Paper Tray menu can appear blank.
[#LA4483]
This fix addresses the following issues:
After upgrading to Hotfix Rollup Pack 2 (Fix #LA2240):
[#LA4559]
With the Citrix Print Manager Service (CpSvc.exe) running and the Client Printer redirection policy set to prohibited, local printers connected to the end point via the LPT port are displayed as shared printers in the VDA session.
Note: For 64-bit VDAs, this fix requires that you also install Fix #LA2941.
[#LA4828]
On systems with Fix #LA0907 installed, printers might take a long time to open the Printer Properties sheet.
[#LA5202]
If using the XPS universal printer driver (UPD), the page orientation (portrait or landscape) cannot be changed on the Layout tab in Microsoft Outlook 2010.
[#LA5211]
When using the Citrix XPS Universal Printer driver to print a Microsoft Excel document, each Excel cell of the spreadsheet is printed as a single page, causing multiple pages to be printed. The issue occurs when modifying the page layout ("Printer Properties" > "Layout") on the Citrix UPD screen.
To enable the fix, set the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\Print
Name: dmFields
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0x00000010
[#LA5228]
The Citrix Print Manager Service (CpSvc.exe) process might exit unexpectedly. As a result, printers fail to autocreate.
[#LA5451]
The Citrix Print Manager Service (CpSvc.exe) process might exit unexpectedly and cause printer autocreation in Remote PC Access sessions to fail.
[#LA5508]
This fix addresses the following issues with Windows Photo Viewer in scenarios where the "Auto-create generic universal printer" policy is enabled and the "Universal driver preference" is set to XPS:
[#LC0149]

[#LA4037]
This enhancement introduces a registry key that allows you to manually increase the performance of server-to-client file transfers on Windows 7 and Vista VDAs.
Note: This enhancement might cause performance degradations for users connecting with versions of Receiver for Windows older than Citrix Receiver for Windows 3.4 Cumulative Update 2. If you plan to implement this enhancement, you must also:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\picadm\Parameters
Name: SetMaxIOSize
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 1
[#LA4054]
Right-clicking the root folder of a mapped client drive fails to display the New menu option.
[#LA4087]
Attempts to connect to a VDA might fail after a security scan or other software that authenticates to the VDA.
[#LA4255]
Attempts to open a VM hosted app might fail. The issue occurs because the mmvdhost.exe process can exit unexpectedly during logon.
[#LA4556]
After disconnecting from a touch optimized desktop (TouchOptimizedDesktop.exe) running on a non-English operating system VDA and logging on to the same physical VDA, TouchOptimizedDesktop.exe continues to be running.
Note: For this fix to work, you must also install Fixes #LA4037 and #LA2562.
[#LA4572]
When setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Citrix\wfshell\twi\SeamlessFlags = 0x20 (REG_DWORD) as described in Knowledge Center article CTX101644 on a XenDesktop VDA that provides VM hosted apps, client drive mapping and client printer mapping might fail in the VM hosted apps session.
[#LA4713]
When setting the webcam video resolution to a value other than 352x288, the Webcam application might exit unexpectedly.
With this fix, any resolution is supported as long as the webcam supports it. After applying this fix, set the desired resolution on the endpoint as follows.
For example, to change the webcam video resolution to 640x480, set the following registry keys on the endpoint:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Citrix\HDXRealTime
Value: DefaultWidth
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 640
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Citrix\HDXRealTime
Value: DefaultHeight
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 480
Note: Citrix recommends that you also install and configure VDA Fix #LA5221.
[#LA4773]

A Web application can exit unexpectedly when HDX MediaStream Flash Redirection is enabled, pointing to PseudoServerInproc.dll.
[#239137]
Important: Before applying this fix on a client device, see Knowledge Center article CTX126817 for important information about how the Dynamic Blacklist feature might affect client-side Flash redirection.
Server-side content fetching can exhibit poor performance in restrictive WAN conditions due to the lack of flow control in the Flash Virtual Channel. This fix corrects the flow control for the Flash Virtual Channel and provides smooth playback of Flash objects. For information about configuring server-side content fetching, see http://support.citrix.com/proddocs/topic/xendesktop-als/hd-flash-configure-server-ad.html.
To enable this fix in its entirety, you must install both a client hotfix that contains Fix #LA0686 and:
[#LA0686]
With server-side content fetching enabled, Flash content can take unexpectedly long (up to six minutes) to start rendering in the session.
[#LA1149]
On systems with Fix #LA0307 installed, attempts to open URLs from an email message in a published instance of Microsoft Outlook might fail. Specifically, when an email message in published Outlook contains two links, clicking the first link launches Internet Explorer as expected, but the other link fails to open.
[#LA1363]
Important: Before applying this fix on a client device, see Knowledge Center article CTX126817 for important information about how the Dynamic Blacklist feature might affect client-side Flash redirection.
In scenarios where the Enable server-side content fetching policy is enabled on the server and the Flash server-side content fetching URL list setting is configured for the Flash Redirection policy on the client, attempts to play Flash content fail if the URL to the content contains multibyte/unicode characters such as those common in Asian languages
To enable this fix in its entirety, you must install both a client hotfix that contains Fix #LA1621 and:
Note: This fix also requires the corresponding language code pages to be installed on both the client and the server. The code pages are installed by default by the Windows operating system. For example, the Japanese distribution of Windows 7 installs the Japanese code pages by default. However, if you are using a URL with Japanese characters on an English distribution of Windows 7, the Japanese code pages must be installed explicitly. This applies to both the client and the server because the URLs are transferred from the client to the server when server-side content fetching is enabled.
[#LA1621]
With HDX MediaStream Flash Redirection enabled, Web sites with Flash content can experience delays of up to 10 seconds to load.
[#LA1962]
Microsoft Internet Explorer might exit unexpectedly, referencing pseudoserverinproc2.dll, with certain types of Flash content on Web pages.
[#LA1979; #LA2151]
The HDX MediaStream Flash Redirection feature might fail to work. The issue occurs when the short path expansion is disabled on the server, which prevents hdxflashhook.dll from loading pseudoserverInprocloader.dll.
[#LA2945]
This fix improves load times of Flash videos when HDX MediaStream Flash Redirection is enabled.
[#LA3232]
When launching a Web page that uses certain ActiveX components with HDX MediaStream Flash Redirection enabled, Internet explorer might exit unexpectedly.
[#LA3294]
After installing the latest version of Adobe Flash Player and attempting to play Flash videos, Internet Explorer might incorrectly display the following error message even if the correct version is installed:
"You need Adobe Flash Player to watch this video."
[#LA3475]
HDX MediaStream Windows Media Redirection
Third party multimedia applications using the HDX MediaStream Multimedia Acceleration feature might exit intermittently.
[#LA1769]
The Citrix audio DMO filter currently does not support audio format conversion and prevents some applications from converting audio formats correctly. This fix introduces a registry key that lets you disable the Citrix audio DMO filter for a list of applications you specify:
On 32-bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\HdxMediaStream
Name: DisabledExecutables
Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ
Data: <List of applications to be excluded>
On 64-bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432node\Citrix\HdxMediaStream
Name: DisabledExecutables
Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ
Data: <List of applications to be excluded>
[#LA2359]
When connecting to a VDA, multimedia redirected audio can fail for certain thin clients. This issue occurs with those thin clients that lack a head-end mixer for the audio subsystem. The problem arises from the VDAâ??s behavior of forcing the audio playback device open upon connection and not automatically closing it. This, in turn, can prohibit access to the audio device by multimedia redirection.
This fix corrects the issue for VDAs running on non-Windows XP operating systems by suppressing automatic opening of the playback device. To correct the issue for VDAs running on Windows XP, you must set the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\GroupPolicy\Default\AudioSettings
Name: EnableForcedDeviceOpenOnXPHost

Attempts to connect to a Virtual Desktop Agent can fail and the following error message appears: "Error: You are not permitted to restart any more sessions for this resource." The issue can occur when a user logs on to the agent console just after the agent restarts. In that case, a race condition can prevent attempts to connect to the agent remotely.
[From XD550VDAWX86100][#LA0664]
If a smart card is present in the card reader at the client device, the smart card PIN prompt can fail to appear. The issue occurs when a legal notice banner is configured and the user does not dismiss (accept) the notice within four seconds of its appearance. In such scenarios, the PIN prompt does not appear as the wait for the smart card event times out. This fix introduces support for the following registry key to extend the amount of time, in seconds, before a timeout on the smart card event occurs:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\SmartCard
Name: SSEEETimeout
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: <Range of 4-120 (decimal) >
With the above registry key set, the application launches properly if the user dismisses the interactive logon message within 40 seconds; otherwise the application exits after providing the smart card PIN. To prevent this and give users up to 120 seconds to respond to the PIN prompt, additionally set the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Citrix\wfshell\TWI
Name: LogoffCheckerStartupDelayInSeconds
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: <An integer for the length of time to wait for application start. - Enter the delay time in seconds, up to 10 minutes (600 seconds), but no less than the value configured for SSEEETimeout above.>

Pooled desktops can restart without honoring the LogOffActionDelay wait interval set in the [appSettings] section of the CdsPoolMgr.exe.config file. As a result, there might not be sufficient time for any logoff scripts to run and finish.
After applying this fix, when a user logs off a session, a pooled desktop waits for the time interval specified in the LogoffActionDelay setting and then restarts. The default wait interval is 420 seconds (7 minutes). To change this value, add the following entry to the [appSettings] section of the CdsPoolMgr.exe.config file located at C:\Program Files\Citrix\VmManagement:
<add key="LogOffActionDelay" value="xyz"/> , where xyz is the wait interval, in seconds, and then restart the Pool Management Service.

Note: This fix applies only to XenDesktop deployments that utilize Branch Repeater for traffic optimization.
This fix enables the Auto Client Reconnect functionality of XenDesktop for deployments that utilize Branch Repeater appliances for traffic optimization. With this fix Auto Client Reconnect is used for session recovery instead of Session Reliability.
Enabling this functionality:
To enable this fix, you must upgrade to Citrix Receiver for Windows 3.4 Cumulative Update 1 (limited release) and take steps at the Broker, the VDA, and the Web Interface site as follows.
What you need to do on the Broker:
You must enable the following policies on the Broker:
Session Reliability:
Session Reliability Connection = Enabled ( Required)
Session Reliability Port Number = 2598 (default)
Session Reliability Timeout = 180 seconds (default)
Auto Client Reconnect:
Auto Client Reconnect = Enabled ( Required)
Auto Client Reconnect Authentication = Do not require authentication (default)
Auto Client Reconnect Logging = Do not log auto reconnect events (default)
What you need to do on VDAs :
In scenarios where VDAs are experiencing heavy CPU loads, processing, or network-related delays, Auto Client Reconnect might take longer to initialize and therefore time out before it succeeds. To increase the VDAâ??s wait time for Auto Client Reconnect to succeed, modify the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\XTEConfig
Name: CgpListenerTimeout
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0-60 (wait time in seconds; default=5)
What you need to do at the Web Interface site:
When you install XenDesktop, it creates the necessary Web Interface sites that are used by the deployment. The meta-installer creates the sites and adds two values that you must tweak for this new functionality to work. The settings requiring to be tweaked live in the Default.ica file, see below for details.
You must verify or set the following parameters on the Web Interface site:
TransportReconnectEnabled=ON, default is OFF. If set to OFF, this functionality will not work.
SessionReliabilityTTL=180*, default is 60.
* Note (SessionReliabilityTTL): Tweak this value to match the Session Reliability Time-Out machine policy (default 180). Otherwise, Citrix Receiver and the VDA get into out of sync condition and Auto Client Reconnect will fail.
Disabling this functionality:
This functionality is enabled even without the presence of this key but only works in Branch Repeater deployments. To disable this functionality and revert to the previous behavior, you must set the following registry key on VDAs:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\XTEConfig
Name: CgpDisableBranchRepeaterSessionReliability
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0 (enabled; default); 1 (disable)
