Description
When the user starts a published Internet Explorer session more than once, it only shows as one session on the XenApp server when session sharing is enabled.
Resolution
To disable the session sharing mechanism for Internet Explorer, add the parameter “-noframemerging” to the iexplore executable under the publish applications settings. After these modifications, the application uses the session sharing mechanism in XenApp and shows the sessions in the console.
Problem Cause
Session sharing is a feature for XenApp that utilizes one session to start multiple published applications. The management console shows multiple applications being started for that user but with the same session number. When the same is carried out with Internet Explorer 8, it would show only one session for the user even if the user had multiple instances. When session sharing is disabled and the user starts the publish Internet Explorer multiple times, it would show within the console but with different session.
Internet Explorer 8 and later has its own session sharing mechanism that takes precedence. This is enabled by default, so when this is working, XenApp cannot determine that the user started another instance of Internet Explorer, as it would only show as one instance being started.
