The local drive letter on the target devices change when a virtual disk changes its mode between Private and Standard.
In Private mode the extra disk for write cache is E: and the CD/DVD is D:. When the customer changes the virtual disk to Standard mode, the extra disk for write cache changes to D: and the CD/DVD changes to E:. Although, the disks can be accessed, change of letters causes issues with applications that are configured to use the drives, such as the EdgeSight Agent.
As a workaround, complete the following steps to resolve the issue:
Manually change the drive letter in Windows on the target device with the virtual disk in Private mode.
For example, reassign drive D: to drive W: and drive E: to drive X:.Start the target device. Note that the new drive letters are still displayed.
Start the virtual disk in Standard mode. Note that the reassigned drive letters are still displayed.
Change the virtual disk back to Private mode.
Reassign the drive letters to the original values D: and E:. The virtual disk retains the original drive letters in Private and Standard mode.
