Description

Machine Creation Services (MCS) completes successfully but creates all virtual machines with the same netBIOS name.

The corresponding accounts in Active Directory are created correctly and also the hypervisor shows the correct names.

Resolution

In the master virtual machine, uninstall the VDA agent and install it anew but running it from the Autoselect.exe file in the root folder of the XenDesktop disk. When the install wizard starts, select the Advanced option and proceed as required.

Once the agent is correctly installed, recreate the catalog. The virtual machines have the CTXSOSID.INI file and the correct hostnames.

Problem Cause

The Virtual Desktop Agent (VDA) software was installed directly from the .msi file.

The agent installer XdsAgent_x64.msi for 64-bit systems can be found in the installation media in the VDA folder. Using the .msi installer directly causes the CTXSOSID.INI file to not be created. The following screen shot shows the location of the file and how it contains the hostname of the VM:

Note: It is necessary to enable Show hidden files to see the folder and open the file.

Issue/Introduction

This article provides the resolution when all virtual machines are created with the same hostname in MCS.
