Description

The server shows a QFARM /LOAD of 10000 or an invalid load, even if no users or sessions of any kind are active on the server.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, rebuild the PerfMon counters and restart the IMA Service.

To rebuild or reset the counters in a Windows 2008 server, run lodctr.exe /r.
For a leagacy Windows 2003 server, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300956.

Problem Cause

This issue is very common if the server has issues with the PerfMon counters. Open the performance monitor console, and run a performance counter test. If the server has errors with the counters, usually the counter list is empty and you will not be able to run the test.

The load balance concept of XenApp depends on the use of Windows Performance Monitor counters to run the test and receive the correct statistics. If this is damaged or not installed correctly, XenApp will not be able to get a correct read, thus forcing a load of 10000 because the tests are failing.

Following is a screen shot of a corrupted PerfMon counter.  Normally you get a list of the names of all of the performance objects and counters belonging to each.  In this case we just saw a list of numbers.
