This document provides an overview of the change to the Citrix Print Manager Service startup account introduced in XenApp 6.
Before XenApp 6, the Citrix Print Manager Service was configured with the ctx_cpsvcuser local account. This account was created during the installation of XenApp and contained the minimum permissions required to successfully handle autocreation and other printer-related tasks. In XenApp 6, this service is now started with the built-in Local Service account. This change is designed to help prevent problems where Group Policy Objects (GPOs) are in place to lockdown the local accounts (which affects ctx_cpsvcuser and causes printing problems). For additional details on the ctx_cpsvcuser account used in earlier XenApp versions, refer to CTX113555 – Permissions and Rights Required for Ctx_CpsvcUser Account.
The Local Service account is now configured to start the Citrix Print Manager Service and has sufficient privileges in the operating system and ICA listener to perform the required tasks. For troubleshooting, the service may be set to use the Local System account temporarily which contains greater system privileges. It may be switched back to the Local Service account at a later time by specifying Local Service as the account with a blank password, as shown in the following screen shot:
