The customer had upgraded Citrix Workspace App for Windows to the latest release. Afterwards it was decided to install an older LTSR release of Citrix Workspace App for Windows.

• Attempting to install the older version of Citrix Workspace App  over the latest release of Citrix Workspace App failed and was not successful. 
• Using command line switches /cleaninstall or /forceinstall did not enable the installation of the older LTSR release of Citrix Workspace App install over the latest release of Citrix Workspace App .

Installing an older release of Citrix Workspace App on to a system which already has a later release of Citrix Workspace App installed should be done in two parts. That is to downgrade the Citrix Workspace App install on an existing machine, two steps should be completed:

1. The latest release of Citrix Workspace App should be uninstalled first.
2. Only when the latest release of Citrix Workspace App has been uninstalled and successfully removed, should you proceed to the installation of the older release of Citrix Workspace App.

Problem Cause

Functionality included in Citrix Workspace App with options /cleaninstall, is targeted towards the uninstall of that specific release of Citrix Workspace App itself and versions preceding it. The functionality would not have accommodation for components and configurations that are only included in later superseding releases of Citrix Workspace App..
