Vmware ESX 5.5.0 2456374, NetScaler 11.0 VPX. VM Tools showing as “3rd party/independent"

When Admin try to use "Restart Guest" or "Shutdown Guest"  get an error “Cannot complete operation because Vmware Tools is not running in this virtual machine.” and the restart or shutdown is NOT executed.

Resolution

Engineering team has fixed this issue in 11.0-65.x build, this build is expected to release in March 2016

But there are observation to consider
 
1)      ESX5.1- vpx console, when we select reboot guest option,its resetting vpx(same for shutdown option).  This issue observed only with ESX5.1 version
2)      Console slight hanging when poweron VPX.
 
 
Verified versions:-
 
1)      ESX5.1(patch version-1065491) verified in VMX version 7 and 9
2)      ESX5.5(patch version-2456374) verified in VMX version 7 and 10
3)      ESX6.0(patch version-3073146) verified in VMX version 7 and 11
 
Verified cases:-
 
1)      Right click on vpx and select poweroff,reboot,shutdown,suspend,poweron
2)      Getting started tab and select shutdown,poweron
3)      Summary Tab and select poweroff,reboot,shutdown,suspend,poweron
4)      Open console and select poweroff,reboot,shutdown,suspend,poweron
5)      Open console and go to VM tab and select poweroff,reboot,shutdown,suspend,poweron
 

Problem Cause

As per Engineering team issue is caused by the scripts for shutdown/reboot packed along with open-vm-tools (new tools introduced in 11.0, as the earlier vmtools had compatibility issues).
