Description

In a Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops on-premises environment using PVS Target Devices 2507 LTSR CU1, ICA RTT and Network Latency metrics are not displayed in Director.

The issue does not occur on equivalent MCS-provisioned VDAs, where ICA RTT and Network Latency metrics are reported correctly.

Symptoms

  • ICA RTT metrics are missing in Director.
  • Network Latency metrics are unavailable.
  • End User Experience (EUEM) data is not populated.
  • If manually restart the Citrix End User Experience Monitoring Service (EUEM) while ICA sessions are active -receive a warning for each active ICA session(This only occurs when the EUEM service is manually restarted)
  • The Windows Application Event Log Event ID 1300 from MetaFrameEvents: Citrix End User Experience Monitoring Service (SemsService)  has unexpected terminations:

  • An attempt to inform the SemsService of some EUEM data has failed.
  • BrokerAgent logs contain the following errors:MachineDataProvider: IcaRTT data collection failed,System.Management.ManagementException: Invalid Namespace

Cause

Investigation identified that the LocalService temporary directory required by the EUEM service was missing:

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Temp

Because the folder did not exist, the EUEM service was unable to initialize required WMI components correctly, resulting in:

  • Missing root\Citrix\EUEM namespace
  • ICA RTT collection failures
  • Director being unable to display ICA RTT and Network Latency metrics

Resolution

Step 1

Confirm the following components are installed on the VDA:

  • Citrix Profile Management and Citrix Profile Management WMI Plugin
  • Run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt: lodctr /q | findstr /i citrix
  • If performance counters are not enabled, execute: lodctr /e:CitrixICA

Expected Result: CitrixICA is enabled and uses IcaPerf.dll

Check whether the EUEM namespace exists: Get-CimInstance -Namespace root\Citrix\EUEM -ClassName Citrix_Euem_RoundTrip

If returned: False or Invalid namespace or RPC server unavailable:

  • Verify the LocalService Temp Folder: Open PowerShell as Administrator and run: Test-Path "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Temp"
If the command returns: False, continue with Step 2.

Step 2

Recreate the Folder or execute Powershell

  • $p = "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Temp"
  • New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force -Path $p | Out-Null
  • icacls $p /grant "NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE:(OI)(CI)F" "SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)F" "Administrators:(OI)(CI)F"
  • Restart the End User Experience Service: Get-Service -DisplayName "End User Experience" |Restart-Service -Force
  • Start-Sleep 60 (RTT samples are collected approximately every 15 seconds)
  • Validate EUEM WMI Namespace: Get-CimInstance -Namespace root\Citrix\EUEM -ClassName Citrix_Euem_RoundTrip |Format-List *

Expected Result: The command returns ICA RTT sample information from the active user session.

After completing the above steps:
1. Launch a new ICA session.
2. Verify ICA RTT values are displayed in Director.
3. Verify Network Latency metrics are populated.

Confirm the following BrokerAgent error is no longer generated

MachineDataProvider: IcaRTT data collection failed,System.Management.ManagementException: Invalid Namespace

Citrix End User Experience Monitoring Service (SemsService)  has NO unexpected terminations(The Windows Application Event Log Event ID 1300)
