Description

In both Cloud and On-Premises Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) 2507 CU1 environments, copy-paste clipboard restrictions do not function as expected for published Windows Explorer shared drives delivered through GPO. Despite applying Citrix Studio clipboard policies to restrict or permit local-to-remote clipboard operations, users still encounter clipboard functionality failures or restriction bypasses when interacting with mapped network drives.

Cause

When Citrix clipboard restrictions fail on GPO-mapped shared drives, the issue is typically caused by conflicting native Windows RDP/RDS Group Policy Objects overriding HDX policies, or misconfigured Citrix file clipboard format rules clearing the client buffer.

Resolution

To resolve clipboard functionality failures on published shared drives, follow these troubleshooting and policy configuration steps:

1. Check for Microsoft GPO Conflicts

Ensure that native Windows Remote Desktop Services policies are not conflicting with or overriding your Citrix Studio HDX settings:

  1. Open the Group Policy Management Editor applied to your VDA Organizational Unit (OU).

  2. Navigate to:

Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Device and Resource Redirection

  3. Verify that settings such as Do not allow clipboard redirection are not explicitly misconfigured or forcing a policy conflict against your Citrix Studio rules.

2. Verify Allowed Clipboard Formats

Review your Citrix policy settings in Citrix Studio (Cloud or On-Premises):

  1. Open Citrix Studio and locate your active clipboard policy under Policies.

  2. Check the Session Clipboard Write Allowed Formats and Session Clipboard Read Allowed Formats settings.

  3. Ensure required file and text formats (such as CF_HDROP or Rich Text) are not accidentally blocked, as restricting specific file structures can cause Citrix Workspace App to drop the entire copy pipeline when interacting with Explorer shared drives.

3. Run Policy Diagnostics on the VDA

To confirm which policy takes precedence on the target VDA:

  1. Log into the VDA session as an affected user.

  2. Open an elevated Command Prompt and run:

    DOS

    gpresult /h result.html

  3. Open result.html and inspect the applied Device and Resource Redirection policies to identify any active Microsoft GPO overriding your intended Citrix Studio policy scope.

Issue/Introduction

Copy-paste restrictions and clipboard functions fail to apply correctly on CVAD 2507 CU1 when accessing published Windows Explorer shared drives mapped via GPO.
This issue occurs due to conflicting native Microsoft Remote Desktop Services Group Policies overriding Citrix HDX clipboard directives or blocked clipboard data formats.
