Description

You create a new MCS catalog from a VMWare snapshot, and the newly created machines boot with no problem, but after nightly reboot, they are stuck on the Windows boot screen with the message "Setting up devices."

Examining a newly created machine, you do not find any changes from the past several snapshots including an older version of VMWare Tools (which is likely causing the boot issues after the DDC-initiated power action.

Cause

Disk type for the master image VM  is set to Independent - Non-Persistent instead of Dependent and no changes were being saved in the snapshots.

Resolution

  •  On the master image, change the disk type to Dependent
  • Update VMware tools
  • Creating a new snapshot
  • Created a new catalog
