Windows Server 2019 VDA not accepting HDX or RDP connection after January 2026 updates
Cause
The January 2026 update included security-related changes to the graphics component (dxgmms2.sys). In certain scenarios, these changes can lead to a deadlock condition, which may cause the Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) to stop responding and terminate.
When this condition occurs, it can also prevent new user sessions from initializing correctly, leaving sessions stuck during startup.
Resolution
Microsoft released a fix for this issue in the April 2026 updates for Windows Server 2019
