Description

This delay occurs when Enhanced Logging is activated. Enhanced Logging collects detailed system data, requiring additional time to save these logs, which can result in slower shutdowns and reboots. For typical usage, the standard log level is generally sufficient, and Enhanced Logging should only be enabled temporarily for troubleshooting purposes, as prolonged activation may impact device performance.

Resolution

To improve shutdown and reboot speeds, it is recommended to disable Enhanced Logging for regular device operation.

Steps to Enable/Disable Enhanced logging

  1. Access Device Configuration:
    • Right-click the device in the Scout Console and select Device configuration….
  2. Modify Device Configuration:
    • On the General tab, clear the checkbox for Use parent device configuration.
  3. Set Debug level:
    • Navigate to the Diagnostics tab and adjust the Debug level option:
      • Set to On to enable Enhanced Logging.
      • Set to Off to disable Enhanced Logging for faster performance.
  4. Apply changes and restart:
    • Confirm the changes and restart the device to apply the new logging configuration.

Issue/Introduction

Disabling Enhanced Logging on devices running eLux 6 (2302 CU3 or newer) can help avoid slow reboots and shutdowns. Enable Enhanced Logging only when needed for diagnostic purposes to maintain optimal device performance.

Devices running eLux 6 (version 2302 CU3 or newer) may experience slow reboots and shutdowns, sometimes with a blinking cursor at the monitor edges indicating a delay.
