Description

This behavior has been observed across multiple environments and browsers, including:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Citrix Workspace App for ChromeOS

The issue is reproducible in both production and test environments.

Examples:

    • When the inactivity timeout is set to 2 minutes, users are signed out after approximately 1 minute
    • When the inactivity timeout is set to 10 minutes, users are signed out after approximately 9 minutes
  • Expected Behavior

Administrators expect users to remain signed in for the full duration configured in “Inactivity timeout for web browser.”

  • Actual Behavior

Workspace Web displays a warning and signs users out approximately one minute earlier than the configured timeout value.

Cause

This behavior is by design.

Citrix Workspace Web applies a safety buffer (approximately 60 seconds) to the configured inactivity timeout.
The client proactively initiates sign-out before the server-side session expires.

This design prevents scenarios where:

  • A user performs an action near the exact timeout boundary
  • The server-side session or authentication token has already expired
  • The user encounters errors such as 401 Unauthorized or network-related errors

By ending the client session slightly earlier, Workspace Web ensures a cleaner and more consistent user experience.

Resolution

No action is required.

This behavior is expected and intended, and the effective sign-out time will be approximately:

Configured timeout – 60 seconds
