Description

VNC communication and Encryption protocol

When mirroring a terminal device via VNC in the Scout Console, encryption is handled by the VNC protocol, not directly via the management protocol (TCP 22125). Here are the details:

  • TLS Encryption: VNC communication between the eLux client (VNC server) and Scout Console (VNC viewer) uses TLS-based encryption.
  • Optional Password Protection: This TLS encryption can be strengthened by setting a mirroring password.

Confirming Encryption during mirroring

While mirroring is active, the encryption level can be verified as follows:

  1. Press the F8 key during mirroring.
  2. Select Connection info… to view the encryption details.
  3. If encryption and a password are enabled, it will display Security method: TLSVnc.

Alternative: WebRTC Encrypted Mirroring via Scout Board

For an alternative mirroring method with encryption, you can use Scout Board for a WebRTC-based P2P connection. This method also provides secure, encrypted mirroring.

Issue/Introduction

If the "Encrypted data transfer" checkbox is selected in Scout Console for mirroring, does VNC communication utilize the management protocol (TCP 22125) with TLS 1.2 encryption?

Additional Information

When the "Encrypted data transfer" checkbox is checked, VNC communication encryption is handled by the VNC protocol using TLS. You can verify this encryption level during mirroring. Additionally, WebRTC P2P mirroring through Scout Board offers another encrypted mirroring option.
