Description
- Auto KeyPass (auto-type) functionality is not supported in CWA 2503 and later.
- Applies across platforms where CWA enforces Microsoft authentication standards.
Environment
Please try to test it for a user in the environment before applying it to all the passwords for all the users.
Cause
- This is expected behavior due to authentication restrictions enforced by Microsoft.
- CWA adheres to Microsoft’s security model, which blocks synthetic keystroke injection into remote sessions.
- This restriction is part of the current code design and cannot be changed.
Resolution
To overcome this behavior, modify the KeyPass entry to include an Escape key before the password in the custom keystroke sequence:
- Open KeyPass and navigate to the password entry that needs to be updated.
- Click Edit Auto-Type Item.
- Select Use custom keystroke sequence.
- From the list of available keys, choose {ESC} and add it before the password in the sequence.
- Save the changes.
- Close the tab and retry clicking on the password entry.
- The password should now work correctly in the Citrix VDI session.

Issue/Introduction
- After upgrading Citrix Workspace App (CWA) to version 2503 or later, the auto KeyPass feature does not work as expected.
- Clicking on a stored password in KeyPass:
- Triggers the view toolbar at the top of the running session.
- No password is pasted into the session.
Additional Information
- This ensures the session toolbar closes before the password is typed.
- Clipboard-based copy-paste and pass-through authentication remain alternative options.
- No registry or CWA configuration changes are available to restore original auto-type behavior.
