Description
This issue occurs only for the two following scenarios:
Scenario 1:
- Citrix Profile Management version 2411 or later is installed and enabled.
- FSLogix is installed on the same machine.
- The following Citrix Profile Management policies are configured:
-
- A directory is added to “Exclusion List – Directory” list, being excluded by Citrix profile management.
-
- Its parent directory is added to “Folders to Mirror” list.
-
- Accelerate Folder Mirroring is enabled.
Scenario 2:
- Citrix Profile Management version 2206 or later is installed and enabled
- FSLogix is installed on the same machine.
- The following Citrix Profile Management policies are configured:
-
- “Profile container” is enabled and configured as “*”, meaning the whole user profile is stored in profile container.
-
- A directory is added to “Folders to exclude from profile container” list, being excluded by Citrix profile management.
For both Scenario 1 and 2, renaming operation under the excluded directory would fail.
Environment
Caution! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.
Cause
The issue is caused by a conflict between UPMaction.sys and frxdrvvt.sys filter drivers.
Since frxdrvvt.sys (part of FSLogix) has a lower altitude value, its operations are processed after Citrix Profile Management, leading to the observed behavior when renaming files in excluded directories.
Resolution
To resolve the issue, adjust the filter driver altitude of the UPMaction.sys driver to a value lower than that of frxdrvvt.sys.
Note:
For persistent (dedicated) provisioned machines, apply the change individually on each existing machine.
For random (pooled) provisioned machines, apply the change on the master image, and then update the machine catalog accordingly.
- On the machine where Citrix Profile Management is installed, open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Run the command fltmc to list all filter drivers and their altitudes: fltmc

- Open the Registry Editor and navigate to:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UPMACTION\Instances\UPMACTION Instance
- Locate the entry:
- Name: Altitude
- Type: REG_SZ
- Change the value to a unique number lower than the altitude of frxdrvvt.sys.Make sure the new value does not conflict with any existing altitude values on the machine.
- Reboot the machine.
Issue/Introduction
Renaming a file under a directory that configured in the Exclusion list -directory policy fails after upgrading to Citrix Profile Management 2411 and above version. Pop up:
The <path-of-the-directory> folder does not exist. The file might have been moved ore deleted. Do you want to create it?
Upon clicking either Yes or No button, the same pop up repeats
Renaming fails from Powershell as well.
