Chromium 139 release breaks Browser Content Redirection functionality

Issue Description

Due to recent updates to Google Chrome 139 and upcoming updates to Microsoft Edge 139, Browser Content Redirection funtionality is impacted. Even though BCR extension indicates a successful redirection by turning green and the status indicator transitions out of "you are being redirected to the page", users never see the actual redirected page. Instead, users can only see the BCR background page ("The page was redirected"). Reloading the page does not resolve the issue. 

Versions Impacted

This issue occurs with a combination of following VDA operating systems, VDA versions and browser versions.

  • Impacted VDA Operating Systems: More specifics will be added as identified

    • Windows 11 23H2, 24H2

    • Windows Server 2025

  • Impacted VDA Versions:

    • All currently supported Citrix VDA versions. As of Aug 8, 2025 following are the versions which are still supported.

      • CVAD 2407, CVAD 2411, CVAD 2503
      • CVAD 2203 LTSR, CVAD 2402 LTSR

  • Impacted Browser Versions:

    • Google Chrome version 139 and later.

    • Microsoft Edge version 139 and later.

Resolution

Action Needed

This issue is fixed on VDA releases 2507, 2402 CU3 and 2203 CU7. On these versions, customers can use Browser Content Redirection without issues with Microsoft Edge / Google Chrome 139.

In case, customers cannot upgrade to the VDAs in which the fix is available, Citrix recommends to stay on Microsoft Edge / Google Chrome 138 or earlier to ensure Browser Content Redirection is working properly

Issue/Introduction

After updating Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge to version 139 (which are based off Chromium 139) on a Citrix VDA, Browser Content Redirection (BCR) feature may stop working correctly. When users navigate to a website configured for redirection, they will only see the BCR background page instead of the redirected content.

This happens even though the BCR browser extension icon turns green, which usually indicates a successful redirection.
