Description

NetScaler Enters Grace Period After Reboot ("Running in Grace. System will lose capacity after") for sometime.

Resolution

This behavior is expected and by design. After a NetScaler VPX reboot, the appliance enters a temporary grace period while it reconnects to Citrix ADM (Advanced Delivery Management) to retrieve and validate its pooled license.

Problem Cause

The grace period, typically lasting around 5 minutes, allows the system to maintain service continuity during the license validation process. The VPX will automatically return to normal licensed operation once the following steps are completed:

Communication between the VPX and ADM is re-established
The pooled license is retrieved and verified
The duration of this grace period may vary slightly depending on network latency, DNS resolution, or ADM response time. No manual action is required unless the appliance remains in grace beyond the expected timeframe, in which case network connectivity or ADM availability should be verified.
