Description

On a Fortville NIC SDX platform with i40e driver. When LA channel is configured with 10G or 25G NICs and is assigned to a NetScaler VPX. The VPX may receive unexpected multicast packets that was sent by itself through another member of the LA channel. Such as VRRP control plane messages. The unexpected packets may also cause loops when L2 mode is enabled on the NetScaler VPX appliance.
The following SDX platforms are impacted:

  • SDX 8900
  • SDX 9100
  • SDX 14000-40G
  • SDX 15000
  • SDX 15000-50G
  • SDX 16000
  • SDX 25000-40G
  • SDX 26000
  • SDX 26000-50S

Resolution

Workaround: Creating LA channel with interfaces that do not share the same firmware.

  • For 10G NICs, 4x10G interfaces share the same firmware.
  • For 25G NICs, 2x25G interfaces share the same firmware.
  • For 40G NICs, the interfaces do not share the firmware.

For example, on 25G NIC platform, creating LA channels with 25/1 and 25/3 is a workaround, but 25/1 and 25/2 may trigger the issue.

Solution: Upgrading NetScaler SDX.

  • 14.1 Build 21.57 or higher.
  • 13.1 Build 53.17 or higher

Problem Cause

The issue is a BUG on Fortville i40e driver.
