Description

This article explains the function of deviation parameter under NetScaler monitor setting.

Instructions

With the deviation parameter enabled, there are two steps involved.

Learning stage:
Initially the bound monitors would be in learning state aka Stage 1. The monitor remains in Stage 1, until the said number of probes are done (by default 5 probes). In this process we would have tracked the average response time of the monitor, this would be used in Stage 2.

Dynamic stage:
Once the monitor binding has cleared the initial learning phase, it moves to dynamic state, aka Stage 2. In this stage, the response timeout of a probe is the sum of the deviation and the average response time. Whenever the monitor goes down, either due to response timeout and due to failed response, then we have to move to learning stage and try to learn the average values for the down monitor.
