Description

Error "C:\Program Files\Citrix\User Profile Manager\upmoutlookhook64.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error" when launching Outlook from a Published Desktop

Resolution

  1. Backup the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\CtxHook\AppInit_Dlls\upmoutlookhook and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\citrix\CtxHook\AppInit_Dlls\upmoutlookhook
  2. Inside both registry locations set the data for the value flag to 0 ie [Flag] = 0
    •  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\CtxHook\AppInit_Dlls\upmoutlookhook [Flag] = 0
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\citrix\CtxHook\AppInit_Dlls\upmoutlookhook [Flag] = 0
  3. Reboot the VDA
*Note: Additionally, if you are using FSLogix ensure that UPM is not installed on any of the impacted VDA. Uninstalling UPM in this scenario may also resolve the issue, However if you would like to you the Director for monitoring the VDA usage, session and policies do keep the UPM WMI plugin checked while installing the VDA.
