Description
When attempting to adjust permissions on a folder in a compiled layered image - the following message is seen "The permissions on [foldername] are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective"
Resolution
Create a new layer version and edit the layer where the folder initially created (e.g. if the folder was created by an installed application, edit the layer where the application was installed).
- Right click on the relevant folder
- Go to properties
- Go to the security tab
- Click advanced
- When the "The permissions on [foldername] are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective" now appears, you will have the option to allow Windows to re-order the permissions. Allow it to do so,
- Highlight one of the accounts or groups that have permissions and click "add"
- Click Advanced permissions
- Ensure that the account has the traverse/execute special permission.
- Repeat for all accounts that require access, ensuring that they also have the traverse/execute special permissions.
Once this change has been made, publish, deploy and use the new layer version.
Problem Cause
Permissions have become incorrectly ordered
