When attempting to adjust permissions on a folder in a compiled layered image - the following message is seen "The permissions on [foldername] are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective" 

Resolution

Create a new layer version and edit the layer where the folder initially created (e.g. if the folder was created by an installed application, edit the layer where the application was installed).
  1. Right click on the relevant folder
  2. Go to properties
  3. Go to the security tab
  4. Click advanced
  5. When the "The permissions on [foldername] are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective" now appears, you will have the option to allow Windows to re-order the permissions. Allow it to do so,
  6. Highlight one of the accounts or groups that have permissions and click "add"
  7. Click Advanced permissions
  8. Ensure that the account has the traverse/execute special permission.
  9. Repeat for all accounts that require access, ensuring that they also have the traverse/execute special permissions.
Once this change has been made, publish, deploy and use the new layer version.
