Description

PVS on Azure - When shutting down a target from the PVS console or the Azure portal vdisk locks are not releasing properly.

Resolution

Make sure the vmicshutdown service is set to manual.

Problem Cause

If the vmicshutdown service is disabled then the host can't trigger a friendly shutdown inside the virtual machine. All shutdowns will be a hard power-off, which could cause data loss or data corruption.  A hard power-off will also prevent the PVS target device software from logging off from the PVS server and the vdisk lock will not be cleared.
